[ Tenno Sho (Autumn) ]
Originating from “The Emperor’s Cup” of 1905, this is the pinnacle of domestic G1 races in Japan.
Since 2000, it has been positioned alongside the Japan Cup and the Arima Kinen as part of the “Autumn Triple Crown for Older Horses.” On the glittering turf, fifteen horses of various colors. The Autumn Shield. How will this year’s story unfold?
It is now the post parade for the 166th Tenno Sho (Autumn)! First, number 1. A five-length win in the Kokura Kinen with a shocking late charge.
The awakened great mare, Maria Elena, with Kohei Matsuyama. Second, number 2. The big shock of the Niigata Kinen, winning as the 10th pick.
Will we see it again today!? The One-Strike Knockout! The combination of Karate and Akira Sugawara. With the front-running speed that conquered the world, today is another determined declaration to lead!
“The Twin Turbo of the Reiwa Era.” It’s Panthalassa and Yutaka Yoshida. The champion of the Osaka Hai, who possesses the strongest genes.
It’s Potager and Hayato Yoshida! With unfathomable potential, the great unfinished vessel. Will he awaken today!?
It’s Yuga Kawada and Danon Beluga. The bitterness of the Derby is now, after the summer, a showdown in the fall! On a mission of revenge, the Satsuki Sho champion Geoglyph, and his jockey, Yuichi Fukunaga. Second in two consecutive Classics. The god-given talent finally blossoms!
Equinox and C. Lemaire. Scatter them all with the powerful charge that conquered Japan and the world!
It is now the return of the great king! It’s Shahryar and Cristian Demuro. Carrying the dream of the Fujioka father and son, jockey and trainer.
The escape artist of the new era, it’s Jack d’Or! With a “stay-at-home” training regimen, never leaving the stable, he’s aiming for the upset! North Bridge and Yasunari Iwata. For Red Galant, with two major wins born from his rapid improvement, the jockey is Kazuo Yokoyama, who is in the midst of a breakout season! The frontrunner from the wide draw. A repeat of the massive front-running performance from the Arima Kinen!?
Babbitt and Norihiro Yokoyama. The young genius from the UK, T. Marquand!
Together with blazing ambition, on Ablaze! The dream of the late Leader Okada continues! The Oaks winner, Uberleben, vows a counter-attack with M. Demuro! Finally, number 15, the eldest horse with a perfected finishing kick, Cadenas! In the saddle, on his 106th G1 attempt, is jockey Kosei Miura! That concludes our report of the post parade for all 15 horses! [ 1998 Tenno Sho (Autumn) ]
It was the day the cheering died. “Silent Sunday.”
The day we lost the legendary Silence Suzuka in his final, tragic race.

And now, a quarter of a century later, his spirit returns.
A new challenger has appeared, daring to win in the same, breathtaking style—with a great, audacious escape from the front. The feverish excitement of 61,570 people now sends the 15 horses on their way! A tale of 2000 meters at Tokyo Racecourse. Is this a new generation for the relentless three-year-olds?
Or a great escape from the colorful pace-setters!? Or perhaps, will the “great king” scatter them all!? Every great horse adds to the luster of the legendary Autumn Shield. Its history is their history.
Welcome to the 166th Tenno Sho (Autumn), with a magnificent lineup of fifteen contenders! Alright, numerous legendary contests have unfolded right here, in this race. Sometimes, a fierce battle. Sometimes, silence.
Sometimes… a resurrection! The Tenno Sho in recent years has been… a medium pace, or it has become a slow pace. Within that trend, will we see a return to an extremely fast-paced race, or not? Equinox has now settled into the gate. Karate, number 2, he will also be forwardly placed.
And so will North Bridge. The Derby winner, Shahryar.
The Satsuki Sho winner, Geoglyph! The horses are now making their way into the stalls and are settled. It’s number 14, the Oaks-winning mare, Uberleben. And finally, once the great veteran, number 15 Cadenas, is settled in the gate, the lineup will be complete. So many front-runners in this field of 15! Just what kind of finish are we in for?! And they’re off in the Tenno Sho (Autumn)!
It’s a scattered start! Cadenas is at the back! Now, how will the highly anticipated battle for the lead unfold? Panthalassa goes for it! And from the outside, Jack d’Or is going!
Babbitt is there as well! And now, North Bridge has secured a very good position! They head around the second corner and onto the backstretch! Uberleben is running from the rear. So, the leader is number 3, Panthalassa! And Equinox is positioned in the middle of the pack! Geoglyph is also mid-pack,
Shahryar is mid-pack. It’s the front-running escape from Panthalassa,
just as he declared he would! In second is Babbitt, with North Bridge chasing in third! Jack d’Or is in fourth! Behind him is the Derby winner, Shahryar! And up on the inside, it’s number 1, Maria Elena! Then comes the Satsuki Sho winner, Geoglyph! And moving up from the outside is Ablaze! Then number 2, Karate! And there’s Equinox, patiently,
so patiently watching the leaders! And then Danon Beluga! The winner of the Osaka Hai,
Potager, is in this position. About three lengths back is number 11, Red Galant. Then the Oaks winner, Uberleben! And at the very back is Cadenas… The first 1000 meters in 57.4 seconds?! 57.4! That is a blistering pace! It’s Panthalassa’s great escape!!! And Panthalassa is already past the big elm on the far side!

It is his first G1 win, but this will not be the last.
He has plenty of stamina, so the Japan Cup and Arima Kinen are also within his reach. The story began from within silence.

  6. What an exciting race and an incredible presentation you've given us. Thank you so much.

Even though they lost in the end, now I'm excited to go learn more about Panthalassa. We already know how great Equinox is, but I wasn't familiar with Panthalassa before this.

  8. Uminema. Wished Panthalassa would have win this race to complete the dream, but he did his best, also a great Turning point for Equinox’s career.

  9. Panthalassa isn’t just the “Reiwa Era’s Twin Turbo”—he’s also won two international G1 races in Dubai—Dubai Turf and Saudi Cup! And the fact that Equinox beat him……proves how good he is…..!
