Flying Hawaiian is close up in the opening furong and just behind them curtain call and butane. It’s a gap of five to Romeo and AI was off slowly and is 10 lengths off Soldier and Diplomat who rattles off an opening quarter in 23 seconds flat. Easy lead for Soldier and Diplomat. Ted Nafia is in second. Flying Hawaiian third. Curtain Callaw trying to get off the rail. He’s currently held in by Butane who now takes that fourth spot and is three lengths off the lead. Ted Nafi in hand inhales soldier and diplomat as butane takes up the chase on the outside and in between curtain calls running a big race. One furong left. Ted Nafy with a two-length lead. Curtain call trying his best but is no match for Ted Nafy. Ted Nafy in those legendary colors wins the Spenthrift Farm. Hopeful by eight. A brilliant performance. He’s a 2-year-old gray colt by Into Mischief out of Streak of Luck, owned by Spenthrift Farm, trained by Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher. And with this win, Todd Pletcher takes a one- win lead in the trainers race. and Hall of Famer John Velasquez aboard for the victory on Ted Nafi, winner of the Spenthrift Farm Hopeful, bred in Kentucky by Aaron and Marie Jones and of course by the legendary Spenthrift Farm stallion into mischief. The trophy presentation for the 121st running of the Spenthrift Farm Hopeful was going to be made by Spenthrift’s general manager Ned Toffee, but he’s accepting now. And in the winner circle is the chief executive officer of the New York Racing Association, Mr. Dave Oor, as well as a gentleman who is celebrating his retirement and has done phenomenal work.
