From more than 9,000 eligible, the very best were chosen, and by their own merit they have advanced to this gate of eighteen. The final gate—The Japanese Derby.
These eighteen elites are moving into the gates now. Mid-draw, No. 10 Winning Ticket has gone in. The last ones look to be loading smoothly—
finally No. 18 Sanei Kid The far outside, the No. 18 gate—edging up to the outside stall—now in. Start and they are off! They broke together—clean start. Sakura Chitose O is a touch slow to find his stride— —a faller! a faller! No. 16 MultiMax— Jockey unseated right after the start. He trails the field as they go on, but— —best away is Amber Lion, Amber Lion;
Pegasus draws alongside from the outside. Dojima Muteki in third My Shinzan early—up from fourth to third. Cyclennon Sheriff sweeps around the outside into fourth on the outer Inside, Galeon is also prominent—they turn the 1st corner. No. 16 Multimax has unseated the rider and is out of the race—
but Biwa Hayahide sits in mid-pack To his inside is Sakura Chitose O. Between the 1st and 2nd corners now—the leader is,
as expected, Amber Lion, by a length and a half. just behind the front rank. Outside, marking him, Stage Champ;
he loops the outer in mid-division. Onto the backstretch.
In the thick of mid-pack comes Osumi Point. Further inside of that, Winning Ticket tracks along the rail. Outside of Winning Ticket is T.M.Hurricane. Two lengths back, Tsuji Utopian follows in the rear group.
It’s a slightly strung-out field Then Sanei Kid on the rail; three lengths back to Rally Cap—
inside the last 1,200. Three lengths further to Narita Taishin—second last, in 16th. And at the tail, likely Silk Moonlight. Now turning the 3rd corner—down to the last 1,000 meters.
In the meantime Amber Lion is winging along— —three lengths in front, heading to the midpoint between the 3rd and 4th corners. Dojima Muteki second; two lengths away in third, Pegasus; Sakura Chitose O in fourth. Right behind them the field is gradually closing—
inside the final 800— —and here they come: from the far outside, My Shinzan;
and wider still, Cyclennon Sheriff advances. Winning Ticket also threads through on the inside,
cutting the margin Biwa Hayahide is right in the thick of this group—
everything bunching up in a rush. The pack compresses at 4th corner— —now they come to the home straight.
Stage Champ is there—outside of Biwa Hayahide—
as they turn for home. Amber Lion still leads—leads!—by three lengths.
Down to the last 400! From second, Winning Ticket ranges up. Shibata Masato and Winning Ticket—
from second he strikes the front! And what of the closers?
From the far outside it’s My Shinzan—My Shinzan wide! From the inside, Biwa Hayahide drives—will he get there? Through the middle—through the middle—

Narita Taishin closed but it’s third. Then Galeon, My Shinzan. No stewards’ inquiry light—
