The gates are open! Ah—Mejiro Bright is a little back; as usual he’ll be coming from the rear. Stay Gold, white cap, hands moving, pushes up into mid-pack. Now the battle for the lead—what will take command? Tojin Tornado, then T.M.Top Dan— And what’s this!? Matikanefukukitaru in third! No. 4 Matikanefukukitaru in third. Then Northern Way, No. 5—that’s fourth. Pulsebeat is there; Daiwa Oshu; up the inside, Stay Gold. No. 18 Shako Tesco; No. 8 Hidaka Brian;
the orange cap, Tokio Excellent. And wider out goes Silk Lightning. Then No. 10, No. 10 Rule Fast; and No. 11, Shonan Acty. Mejiro Bright in the orange cap. Silk Justice and Erimo Dandy— the two from the Okubo yard are together. Third Sun Thrill has gone by on the inside. From the outside, one from the sixth bracket—Nike Spirit. That’s all 18 runners. Now they come through the green belt and everyone, everyone, heads to the inside. Four meters in from the rail is the green belt. It looks to be a slow pace. And Silk Justice is fourth from last. In front of Silk Justice is No. 14 Mejiro Bright. Erimo Dandy was there. Now the 18 are bunched and take the right-hand curve of the 1st corner. Over the autumn-tinted turf, the 18 head to the 2nd corner. With the dual Classic winner Sunny Brian absent from this Kikuka stage, which horse will take the yokozuna seat? Let’s sort the 18 once more. As usual it has become a slow pace. Silk Justice and Mejiro Bright are coming from the rear. Matikanefukukitaru has gone forward; the crowd is in a great roar. The leader is T.M.Top Dan—Wada Ryuji. Second is Tojin Tornado; then Daiwa Oshu all the way. No. 7 is fourth. From the outside, Shako Tesco. Hugging the rail, Matikanefukukitaru goes forward, forward, forward, forward. This is a little different from most expectations. The white cap is Stay Gold; and No. 6 is Pulsebeat. Hidaka Brian, Tokio Excellent; No. 17 Silk Lightning is here. And just behind, No. 14 Mejiro Bright—Mejiro Bright. Now No. 16 Silk Justice—No. 16 Silk Justice and Mejiro Bright are together; and Shonan Acty. Behind them—is that Erimo Dandy? There he is—here, the yellow cap, Erimo Dandy. Third Sun Thrill is last. The 18 are still there, not much between them. And now Kyoto’s decisive stage, the 3rd corner. They begin the downhill at the 3rd corner of Kyoto’s decisive stage. Now here, Mejiro Bright and Silk Lightning— —Bright and Lightning have made their move. No. 4 Matikanefukukitaru is biding his time on the inside. Split-color caps—from the outside, Lightning; Silk Justice; Erimo Dandy still back. Can Silk Justice get there from here? From the outside, Erimo—Erimo Dandy is coming up with a run! Now is it Mejiro Bright? Is Mejiro Bright in front? Mejiro Bright—coming wide with the orange cap—
has he taken the lead? From the outside Erimo Dandy comes! Tojin Tornado, Tojin Tornado is surging! —Daiwa Oshu is coming, Daiwa Oshu is coming. Daiwa Oshu! — is it Matikanefukukitaru? Matikanefukukitaru, No. 4! Matikanefukukitaru goes through! Again, again—is it Fukukitaru? Matikanefukukitaru! Fuku has come to Kyoto! Again, Fuku has come to Kobe! And now after Kyoto, on the Kikuka stage, Fuku has come as well! Stewards’ inquiry! There is a stewards’ inquiry in this race; there was crowding before the 4th corner.

  1. Just wanted to say thank you for your hard work. I gotten a real Umamusume/Japanese horse racing rabbit hole and now trying to find a lot of Japanese horse races without knowing the language is really hard, abd the fact that some people do this is really important for everyone who is really invested in history of those horses. I really want to thank you especially for sourcing the original videos, cause this really helps to see more of the stuff behind the scenes. Love from recent horse racing fan ❤
