Katsuragi Ace goes all the way! He knew the track! And he made the most of the inside advantage! Katsuragi Ace, splendidly, the first by a Japanese horse to capture the Japan Cup! A Japanese horse for the first time has won the Japan Cup. It was not either of the two Triple Crown horses, but the 10th favorite, Katsuragi Ace. With that distinctive long rein, leaving it to the horse’s desire to go— it was the victory of Nishiura Katsuichi. From the inside finishing strongly, the British gelding, Bedtime was second. Symboli Rudolf, after all, against the older-horse wall, just short, was third. Meanwhile, the Triple Crown horse Mr C.B. showed none of his trademark late run and finished 10th.
